Fall 2019 Update!

2019 has been an amazing year so far! Things have been a bit more low-key at Spotlight because I have been taking more online mixing and mastering projects, but I’ve also worked on a myriad of creative projects with clients in the studio. Earlier this year I produced an EP for Jon Oswald called Hung Up Wet. Throughout the year I’ve been working with Gerard B. to mix his 5th studio album as well as his podcast The Mind Fortitude Show. I recorded several singles like Davis Sisters’ “Framed,” Sofia Bartra’s “Don’t Talk To Me” and Michelle Winters’ “Yearning.” I just finished recording an audiobook called Shelf Awareness with The New York Times Best Selling Author, Katie Ashley. I’m currently in the middle of producing the debut album for country artist, Elliott Prather. We will have all of the music recorded by the end of the year.

If you’re looking to work on a recording project at the end of 2019, feel free to reach out and hopefully we can make something next-level together!

Best,

Jason Andrews

December 2018 Update!

Hi Everyone,

2018 has been a fun year for Spotlight. Since my last update in March, we have worked on quite a few diverse projects. I produced Writing on the Walls for Nocturnal Animals. Barbie and I filmed a music video for Hush Money's song "Bourbon Street Queen"in Blue Ridge, GA. I mixed and mastered Anomaly: Songs in G Major the 4th studio album for Gerard B, and I recorded, mixed, and mastered an EP for Michelle Winters, an amazing violinist. You can check out her song "Rhodes" on Spotify.

We came so close to a Grammy nomination for Chantae Cann's full length album, Sol Empowered. The album made it to the first round Grammy ballot in 3 categories.

I bought my 3rd API 512c mic preamp, repaired my pair of AKG 414's and got a new T4A unit for my LA - 2A. All of our gear is in excellent shape at the moment!

I am currently finishing up an EP for Michael Zaib; you can check out his video for "Over Before it Began."I've already started work on Gerard B's 5th studio album, and I'm looking forward to starting an EP with Grace Milton.

If you need any help with recording projects, get in-touch! Lets make your best music yet in 2019.

This Is How We Record Drums!

Jerome Flood came through to play some drums on one of our sessions and we put together this updated video explaining how we record drums at Spotlight Sound Studio. Jason explains how to mic up the drums, what preamps, EQs and compressors are used. You will hear samples of the different mics around the kit as well as a drum solo at the end by Jerome. Check it out and enjoy Jerome's incredible chops!

Gerard B. Releases 3rd Album "Prolific"

GerardB-Prolific.jpg

Gerard B. is an Atlanta-based music producer and rapper. On December 4th, he released his third full-length album, "Prolific." Gerard says it was his aim to make this new project more thought-provoking than his previous work. The most revealing song on his album is titled, "Empathy," where he discusses how he struggled with overcoming the death of his daughter. Some of his musical influences are: George Benson, Quincy Jones & Dr. Dre. He says that listening to rappers such as Rakim, Nas, & will.i.am have influenced him lyrically.

Gerard is a great example of the modern musician and music producer; he uses programs like FL Studio and Studio One when creating. Like many other musicians and songwriters, Gerard has a home recording studio where he can create and record music whenever he feels inspired. He produced his first song at age 14 and has no problem getting his vision "on tape," but post-production is a different story. He always counts on Spotlight Sound Studio to finish the job by creating cutting edge mixes and masters. Gerard distributes his own music through Baptiste Media, LLC. All 3 albums are available HERE. It's truly a pleasure to help make Gerard's vision a reality and we have already started work on album #4!

We are excited to announce that Zaib Khan will be releasing his new EP "31." Zaib has an incredible voice and has been recording at Spotlight for the last 3 years; Jason Andrews produced his first, self-titled EP.

Zaib started the recording process for "31" with a song called "Is," which was produced by Eren & Richie Cannata at Cove City Sound Studios in New York. Then he finished the EP at Spotlight Sound Studio with Jason Andrews. This new EP showcases Zaib's songwriting diversity with feel-good tunes like "California" to heart-wrenching songs like "Bombs Overhead," which is commentary on some of our tragic global current events.

There will be a CD release party with a performance by Zaib at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia on Friday, September 22, 2017. See you there!
